MyDivorceSales.com began with a simple idea. How can I help out my sister? She had just gotten divorced and had many items that she either no longer wanted or no longer needed. She had told me that she had posted some of her things on web sites and she complained about paying commission fees and not being able to make her ads stand out from the rest. I started thinking how can I help my sister and anyone else who might be in the same situation. In the middle of June 2007, I began searching the internet to see if any sites were developed that offered what I had in mind. I came across another auction site, but the site was mainly for that state only. I was looking to build something that can be useful in the U.S.A., Canada and across the Atlantic.

MyDivorceSales.com domain was purchased at the end of July 2007. Ecommerce was all brand new to me after graduating from college. I studied Computer Systems Management and received a Bachelors of Science degree. My prior degree was in Automotive Design and General Studies.

Little did I know, after those long hours of doing homework and projects for my Bachelors degree, that I can now apply what I work so hard for into my website. Buying the domain name and registering my name was the easy part, finding the software and getting quotes from web developers was another project in itself. I tested out classified ad software on the internet, some where open-source others were not. I consulted a web development team regarding what I should use and they suggested the open-source software "easier to modify down the road". I knew what I wanted the website to look like, so I set out to find a team that was up for the challenge. I received quotes all over the spectrum. Then I ran into a neighborhood friend after 10 years and played catch up. He told me that he was into website development. We consulted with one another and he agreed he would be more that happy to accept my challenge of building my website. As we both held 40 hour work week jobs during the day, we had spent many nights sharing thoughts and ideas to establish the base of MyDivorceSales.com.

As things started rolling, the website was looking really good. My chicken scratching on a piece of paper was actually becoming a reality. The week before I was about to go live, my employer had laid me off due to Michigan’s struggling economy. That did not stop me from what I wanted to create for my sister and all the divorcees in the world that could utilize a web site like mine. People from all over can sell, buy and join our forum boards to unite with other divorcees and people in the divorced community.

I know going through a divorce is really a life changing process, especially when children are involved. I believe in working things out first, but sometimes things are just not meant to be. In my sister’s case, filing for a divorce was the best thing that she ever did. Her giving me the inspiration to create a community for people that are going through a divorce or already went through one was a great learning experience.
